This course is intended to help you to further develop your existing skills for navigating in UK mountainous terrain. Previous formal navigation training (Introduction to Mountain navigation or equivalent) is a prerequisite for attending this course as we will build on your existing knowledge of navigation. On this course we will further develop your skills with a specific focus on micro nav as well as navigation strategies and techniques for safely navigating in the UK uplands.
Location is likely to be in the far Northern lakes
Time 9am to 5pm
A basic course overview is set out below:
Refresher on basic navigation.
A look at contour interpretation, slope aspect and ground conditions for navigation
Scenario based work on route planning, emergency escape planning and strategies for navigation in poor visibility
Relocation techniques
A progression throughout the day starting with navigation legs to prominent land-forms and finishing the day navigating to small contour features
