Scrambling is that grey area between walking and climbing. Essentially as the terrain steepens and the need for hands as well as feet are needed, then this is beginning of a scramble.

The UK mountains have a multitude of scrambling routes, across ridges, through gullies and up rock buttresses. These are all given a grading from 1 to 3 depending on a variety of factors, and are all graded under dry conditions.

Grade 1 is the entry level into scrambling, deemed relatively straightforward to navigate and with plenty of foot and hand placements. Most will have some exposure along the way!

Some of the classic grade 1 Lake District scrambles are: Striding Edge and Swirral edge, Halls Fell Ridge, Sharp Edge and Jacks Rake.

Join us for the weekend as we introduce you to a few grade 1 scrambles.

On Saturday we will ascend the mighty Blencathra via the infamous knife edge arete of Sharp Edge. We will then descend the mountain via the equally thrilling Hall`s fell Ridge.

Plan for Sunday is to Ascend Helvellyn via Striding edge and descend via Swirral edge, both classic grade 1 scrambles

Approx time: 6 to 7 hours for both days

Over the course of the two days you will build up enough technical knowledge and ability to go onto to tackle more grade 1 scrambles around the UK, and potentially progress beyond.

Please note, travel and accommodation is not included in the price.
