This course is intended for those with little or no previous experience of navigation. The day will start with an introduction to maps and the different scales available. We will then have a quick overview of map symbols before we begin a gentle walk across the Lancashire countryside following a route set by the instructor. During the walk we will cover various aspects of navigation such as; Orienting the map, measuring distance, timings and compass work. This is all done in a relaxed manner in the way of fun activities to aid your development throughout the day.
Based out of the beautiful area of Bowland Forest, Lancashire; the day will consist of some theory work before heading out into the open countryside. Map for outdoor navigation will be OL41 1:25,000 from the Ordnance Survey explorer range. Please bring your own map and compass. We do have limited spares if needed.
